History

Toby's World Gifts opened as the "Cash Store" in 1915, on the site of what is now the Little River Water Company. Owned by Captain George Ellis, along with Dr. Stone of Little River, the Cash Store was a true general store, selling everything from seeds and fertilizer to work clothes, and even coffins! Complete with a soda fountain and the first gas pumps in Horry County, the store became a true gathering spot for the community, even serving as the Greyhound Bus Station until 1936.

Sold in 1972, the building was moved to its current location and renamed for its new owner, Toby Frye. Twelve years later, Toby's Old World was purchased by Hal and Deanna Lewis. The Lewises remodeled the exterior, adding the beautiful enclosed porches which are a feature of Toby's today.

In May 2001, Ron White became the new owner of Toby's World Gifts. Delighted by the atmosphere of the store, he has maintained its old world charm while adding new merchandise and expanding on everyone's favorites. From home accents to jewelry; from gourmet foods and candies to a special children's section; Toby's has something for everyone. Christmas and garden departments are featured year round, along with a large nautical area.

Some of the many well-known lines carried by Toby's include Boyd's Bears, Yankee Candles, Heritage Lace, Lenox, Tom Clark figurines and Blue Sky Clayworks. Visitors also enjoy Just the Right Shoe, Beanie Babies, San Francisco Music Boxes, Lang Products and The Cat's Meow collectibles. With a Nickelodeon Player Piano, an authentic 1898 cash register, and antique pie safes and display cases, you can see the old blended with the new. Wider front doors and aisles, along with an exterior ramp, provide easier accessibility for all of Toby's customers.
